NOME GOES 'BACK TO WORK' IN A SWEDISH 12 DOG TEAM
This year we opted for a summer holiday in Sweden in addition to our sledding excursions. We travelled as far north as Norsjö, a town very close to the arctic circle where we visited Steven Lietaer's 'Back to Work' working Alaskan malamute kennel. During our visit Nome had the opportunity of running in his twelve dog team, in the photo below you can see her in wheel position on the left hand side from the view of the musher.

This was a brilliant experience for Nome and she was really enthusiastic about being in the team (and her running partner Tufu.) Her confidence never wavered. Steven and Esther use their dogs as part of their tourist business during the winter months and they also compete in long distance sled races of between 200-300km.

Tufu (left) Back to Work Son of Joki and Nome (right) Kimbear's Bothel Sense of Snow at BlackSummit seemed to enjoy one anothers company. Tufu is an excellent wheel dog and just like all of Steven's dogs has an excellent temperament. Many larger working kennels prioritise good temperament in their breeding programmes so that the dogs can happily run in teams together.

A view from the troll cart, Nome on the left eager to peer down the team to see where she is going. Tufu waiting patiently on the right for his mushers command. Both dogs leaning into their harness and keeping the line tight. Find us on Facebook to see videos of Nome running with Tufu in team.
